Bittman's recipe for Spaghetti with Butter and Parmesan has a variation that involves using Proscuitto. I didn't have any on hand, but I did have a jalapeno and mozzarella summer sausage on hand. For whatever reason Bittman left the garlic out of his butter and Parmesan based sauce so naturally I added a few cloves. I think some cream and a few spices could have made this dish much more fulfilling; but, when you're short on time sacrifices have to be made.
