Challenge #3

I went to the nearest gas station to find ingredients to make a dinner for two that was nutritionally sound according to the dietary guidelines. I made sure to include grains, protein, fruit, vegetables, and dairy. The store I went to had a really low selection of healthy foods. It was mainly filled with chips, candy, frozen pizza, and soda. However, I did find a few acceptable items to make a dinner under $10:

Pasta with Marinara and Pistachios:
7 oz box of Pasta: $1.69
Spaghetti Sauce: $4.19 x 1/2 = $2.10
Pistachios (chopped): $1.99 x 3/4 = $1.49

Sides:
Green Beans: $1.39
Banana: $0.49 x 2 = $0.98
Cheese stick: $1.00 x 2 = $2.00

Total: $9.65

Overall, this exercise was really difficult. I think it would be really hard to stay healthy if my only access to food was a corner store. It was surprising to see a few healthy items in the store such as bananas and canned vegetables, but it is a lot easier to choose all of the appealing convenience food.
