Tamagoyaki

This weekend my apartment was blessed enough to have someone from Japan stay over. I decided it would be a great time to learn about a new culture and also get some homework done. This got us to talking about popular college foods in Japan. After a long very interesting conversation we went to the store and found the ingredients to make Tamagoyaki which is Japanese for sweet omelet. If only took about five minutes to make and was very simple. although the recipe seems easy this week I really learned alot about how other cultures view food and got to learn a recipe that under any other circumstances I never would have tried.

  • 4 ‘large’ eggs
  • 1 Tbs. sugar
  • 1 tsp. mirin
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. light soy sauce (usukuchi shoyu); you can use regular soy sauce instead
  • Oil for cooking
